From Cobblestones to Cold Lagers: Why I Started Krumlov Beer Tours
If you've ever walked through the winding, medieval streets of Český Krumlov, you know the feeling. The Vltava river rushes past, the Castle tower looms overhead, and every limestone brick seems to whisper a story from five hundred years ago.
For years, I've had the privilege of sharing these stories as a local guide. I've walked thousands of miles through our UNESCO Old Town, explaining the grandeur of the Rosenbergs and the mysteries of the Eggenbergs. But there was always one chapter of our history that I felt guests weren't just meant to hear—they were meant to taste.
That is why I started the Krumlov Beer Tour & Brewery Spa.
More Than Just a Drink—It's Our DNA
In the Czech Republic, beer (or pivo) isn't just a beverage; it's a cultural pillar. In Krumlov specifically, our brewing roots go back to the 1300s. We have an incredible history of "brewing rights" and monastic mysteries, yet many visitors only see the surface—a quick pint at a tourist restaurant before catching a bus.
I wanted to create an experience that went deeper. I wanted to take people behind the "Staff Only" doors of the Port 1560 Brewery to see the copper vats and the cold fermentation cellars where the magic actually happens. I wanted to show them that the same water and hops used centuries ago are still the soul of our town today. The "Real" Krumlov Experience
When I designed this tour, I had two goals:
Authenticity: We don't go to the "tourist traps." We visit the hidden taps and local pubs where Krumlovers actually hang out. We pair our lagers with traditional snacks like Utopenci (pickled sausages) or Nakládaný Hermelín(marinated cheese)—the fuel of Czech social life.
True Relaxation: Let's be honest—sightseeing can be exhausting! After a few hours of walking and learning, what could be better than literally soaking in the history? Adding the Beer Spa element was the final piece of the puzzle. There is something incredibly special about a warm oak tub filled with active yeast and hops, overlooking the very brewery that produced them.
A Personal Passion
As the founder of Tour Krumlov, my philosophy has always been "Your Krumlov, Your Way." I started this specific tour because I saw a gap between "history buffs" and "foodies." I realized you can be both! You can appreciate the Gothic architecture of the Rogendorf Palace while also appreciating the crisp bitterness of a perfectly poured bottom-fermented lager.
When you join me on a beer tour, you aren't just a customer; you're a guest in my hometown. We talk about the history of the 16th-century vats, but we also talk about life in Krumlov today.
Come Raise a Glass
I started these tours to celebrate the "liquid gold" that helped build our city. Whether you're a craft beer aficionado or just someone looking for a unique, relaxing afternoon in South Bohemia, I can't wait to show you the side of Krumlov that lives inside the barrel.
Na zdraví! (To your health!)
